The Digital Gate - 2nd Round

The Athens International Airport competition for innovative ideas and applications has begun!

For another year, aiming at exploring and encouraging digital innovation and young entrepreneurship in the air-transport and tourism sector, the Athens International Airport, in cooperation with the Economic University of Athens and the scientific support of the Laboratory of Electronic Commerce and Business, launches a competition under the title:

THE DIGITAL GATE:
Airport Innovation Challenge – Transforming the Airport Environment

Following the great success of the first round in 2015, the second round of “The Digital Gate” aims to allow young people to develop their capabilities regarding the design of innovative services and contribute to the development of applications and new digital business activities, with potential implementation in a real airport environment.

The competition “THE DIGITAL GATE: Airport Innovation Challenge - Transforming the Airport Environment” invites contestants to offer creative solutions to challenges faced by the airport community, such as:

•    Improvement of the travel process
•    Improvement of the travel experience
•    New, innovative services for the airport’s retail centre
•    Improvement of energy efficiency and of the environmental imprint, infrastructure, and processes
•    Develop the “smart airport”

 

The competition includes three stages:

Α: Submission of Business Idea: Until 05/05/2017
Β: Design of Business Modes and Rapid Prototype: May-July 2017
C: Demand Analysis and Materialization Support: August-December 2017

Groups that qualify to the final stage of the contest, will be fully assisted in the development of their ideas, in the framework of the Athens Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation of the Economic University of Athens, with the provision of all technological tools provided by the major IT&T companies supporting the programme. The Athens International Airport will finally select the proposals that will be implemented in a real airport environment.

•    The competition is sponsored by CISCO, SAS, supported by IBM, Microsoft, UniSystems / IQbility, and is under the auspices of Hellenic Institute of Information and Communications / the Hellenic Management Association, ELTRUN, SEPE, HEPIS. Media sponsors are Emea.gr, Startupper.gr, Airnews.gr and Techpress.gr.
•    Participation is open and free of charge. Groups may consist of 1-3 members.
•    All members of the Greek academic community, such as undergraduate, postgraduate or PhD students, researchers, may submit their business idea. In addition, the contest is also open to young people up to 35 years old, who have a higher education degree (either from a University or a Technological Institute), or are active in the creation, promotion or commercialisation of applications.
