Under the circumstances, it is very important that our Dr Yiannis N. Paraschis - Chief Executive Officer
consistent and active support to airlines were widely
acknowledged across the industry for the eighth time in
a row, as AIA was honoured in the OAG-Routes Airport
Marketing Awards, both for Europe and globally, during
the 15th World Route Development Forum in Vancouver.
AIA was also awarded the “Airport of the Year 2010”
distinction, during the “Leaders in Aviation Awards”, in
the Doha Aviation Summit, for its excellent operation
and quality of services, state of the art technology and
innovation, its high entrepreneurship and sound business
strategy. Judges highlighted the success of AIA’s business
model, the airport’s significant contribution to the
national and local economy and its responsibility towards
its stakeholders. Moreover, AIA’s innovative incentive and
marketing support scheme offered to its airline partners,
especially during these difficult times for the industry,
were highly acknowledged. For our cargo development
efforts, AIA received for the third consecutive year the
“Air Cargo Excellence Award” in its category, during the
IATA World Cargo Symposium in Vancouver. In fact, AIA
scored the highest ratings among the awarded airports
in all tonnage categories.

In spite of the unfavourable macroeconomic environment,
the Company’s financial performance was positive for
another year and healthy profitability was sustained
with Pre-Tax Profits of €158.5 million, while an amount
of €75.0 million is proposed by the Board of Directors
to be distributed to the shareholders as dividend. AIA’s
profitability was supported by its solid revenue streams
from both aeronautical and non-aeronautical activities,
coupled with enhanced cost reduction efforts. The
Company’s operating revenues reached €356.5 million,
lower by 22.1% compared to the previous financial
year, attributed primarily to the absence in 2010 of the
extraordinary revenues of €91.5 million recorded last
year and to a lesser extent to the decrease in passenger
traffic. As a result of the Company’s cost consolidation
efforts, operating expenses decreased by €13.6 million
or 9.6% compared to 2009, standing at €127.9 million.
Overall, excluding the extraordinary result of €111.9
million recorded in 2009, the Profit before Tax increased
in 2010 by €6.0 million or 3.9% compared to the previous
year, reaching €158.5 million.

Within the framework of our operational responsibility,
safe and efficient airport operations along with high
level of services to airport customers were maintained
for another year, while the two operational crises that
impacted many European airports in spring and early
winter, namely the volcanic ash and snowfall events
respectively, had a limited impact on Athens operations.
