2. Strategy The strategic location of Athens International Airport, its highly functional environment, the competitive operational framework and high standards of services offered, as well as its close cooperation with all airport users and members of the local cargo community contribute greatly towards the airport‟s vision, to become a major cargo gateway of southeastern Europe, aiming to provide feeder traffic from the East Mediterranean, the Middle East and Africa to Europe and overseas destinations. AIA's cargo development strategy is based on the following principles:  Introduction of a competitive cargo environment in line with the European and Greek Ground Handling legislation and the Airport Development Agreement: o Limited access through the award of multiple airport rights: three third-party handling rights & one self-handling right o International tender every seven years o Current term: March 2008 - February 2015  Facility development by AIA o Four bonded Cargo Terminals (airside)  Total operational area of 30,000 sq.m.  Total mezzanine office area of 7,000 sq.m.  Total annual handling potential ca. 275,000 tonnes annually o An Airmail Center (airside) o A Control Station for veterinary and phyto-sanitary purposes (airside) o A cargo community administration building for Customs, Forwarders and Customs Brokers (landside)  AIA playing the role of a guarantor of quality, safety & security and competition to the benefit of the users as well as  An initiator of new projects page 3
