Odeon of Herodes Atticus
War, fire and time have taken their toll
on the magnificent Odeon constructed
sometime between 160-174 BC, by
Herodes Atticus in memory of his wife.
However, continuous efforts since
1867 that lasted for several decades
led to its magnificent restoration. For
almost six decades it has been staging
unique performances, being one of
The Athens Festival’s main venues.
The world’s most prominent artists in
music, dance and theatre have appeared
under the starry sky offering audiences
a truly mesmerising experience. | Ο
πόλεμος, και ο χρόνος επέφεραν σοβαρά
πλήγματα στο ωδείο που έχτισε μεταξύ
160 και 174 μ.Χ. ο φιλόσοφος Ηρώδης ο
Αττικός στη μνήμη της συζύγου του. Οι
προσπάθειες αποκατάστασης ξεκίνησαν
το 1867, διήρκεσαν δεκαετίες και
κορυφώθηκαν με την πλήρη αναστήλωση
και αναμαρμάρωση του δαπέδου του,
καθιστώντας το ιδανική σκηνή για το
Φεστιβάλ Αθηνών, προσφέροντας θέαμα
ύψιστης καλλιτεχνικής αξίας επί σχεδόν
έξι δεκαετίες.
