The Acropolis Museum
As soon as it was inaugurated in 2009,
the museum was hailed by writer
Christopher Hitchens as «the death
of an argument». Indeed, Greece’s
226,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art
rebuttal to Britain’s argument against
the return of the temple’s stolen
marbles, the museum managed to
attract some 3,300,000 visitors from
over 80 countries in its first 2 years of
operation and in 2010 was ranked 25th
among the world’s greatest museums
by the International Art Newspaper. |

χαιρέτισε τα εγκαίνια του μουσείου ως
το «θάνατο ενός επιχειρήματος». Το
εντυπωσιακό μουσείο-απάντηση στην
άρνηση των Βρετανών να επιστρέψουν
τα μάρμαρα της Ακρόπολης που έκλεψε
ο Έλγιν κατάφερε να προσελκύσει 3,3
εκατ. επισκέπτες στα δύο πρώτα χρόνια
του και να καταταχθεί 25ο ανάμεσα
στα μεγαλύτερα μουσεία του κόσμου,
σύμφωνα με την International Art
