The Greek National Opera is back at the Airport!

The Greek National Opera “returns” to the Athens International Airport for one more performance, this time with Greek and Viennese operettas!

One year after the surprise-performance that filled the airport terminal with famous arias and “enchanted” the lucky travellers that found themselves in an… “operatic departures hall”, the Greek National Opera comes back to the airport on Friday, June 17th, this time bidding farewell to passengers with Greek and Viennese operettas!

On Friday noon, passengers will enjoy three wonderful singers of the Greek National Opera -  the soprano Eleni Koutsoumbi, the mezzo-soprano Eleni Voudouraki, and the baritone Christos Lazos, performing arias and duets, accompanied by a piano, from operettas of Franz Lehar, Johann Strauss, the Greek Theofrastos Sakellaridis, and other  composers. The impressive lyric voices of the Greek National Opera singers will accompany travelers with a unique operatic farewell experience before take-off.

This second performance of the Greek National Opera, the biggest cultural organization of Greece, is a very special moment for the Athens International Airport, a GNO active supporter. The initiative is part of the “Fly me to the Moon” programme, an ongoing manifold cooperation between the airport and the cultural platform "ελculture”.

  • Friday, June 17th, 12:00 (two 20-minutes’ performances), Departures Level, Entrance 3, area open to the public

Greek National Opera

The Greek National Opera has proved in the course of the last years that it can bring the art of opera to unexpected and unpredictable places. Through its strategy of extraversion, which aims at familiarizing the non-specialized audience with the art of opera, it has managed to promote it in a wider audience and make it an inextricable part of the everyday life of the Athenians and not only.

The relocation of the GNO to its new home, at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in Faliro, is going to become the milestone of contemporary culture, changing the map of Athens. Just before its “take-off” to its new facilities, where it aspires to attract thousands of visitors from abroad, the GNO visits the Athens International Airport, the official gate of Greece, bringing an aroma of delightful music and images.
