Athens International Airport's expansion project.
The airport expansion project which is on effect from 2025 onwards, is a major initiative by Athens International Airport that aims to better accommodate the growing needs of over 40 million passengers per year that land in Athens.
The project shall unfold in two phases affecting both on-terminal and off-terminal operations.
Phase 1 includes:
- The construction of a Multi-storey Parking facility in the Short Term 1 parking area.
- The expansion of the apron on the northern side of the airport.
Phase 2 includes:
- The expansion of the Main Terminal Building and the Schengen area.
- Upgrades to the Satellite Terminal building.
As you approach the airport, through Attiki Odos, you will be able to view in real time, on the appropriate navigation signs, the space availability of the airport parking areas.

The new Economy parking is located in the Retail Park area, just a few minutes away from the Main Terminal Building.
Yes! The Economy parking offers free shuttle bus service, with no intermediate stops, to and from the Main Terminal Building. The shuttle stop is located right outside the parking area, and the journey transfer to the Main Terminal Building takes approximately 7 minutes. Upon arrival, to return to the parking area, you can find the shuttle stop at Arrivals Exit 3. The bus is clearly marked “Economy (P4)”.
No. The new Economy parking is available exclusively for online bookings.
This is the former Economy parking area, now dedicated exclusively to online bookings.
You can either walk (approximately 10–15 minutes depending on where you’ve parked) or use the free shuttle bus, which stops at 13 points within the parking area.
