The financial and business performance of Athens International Airport (AIA) for the year 2023 was presented in detail by the company's Management, noting that last year was a milestone for AIA, as it recorded a historic record in passenger traffic combined with a strong recovery in all economic indicators. At the same time, it was the first announcement of financial results after the Company's successful listing on the Athens Stock Exchange about a month ago.

In more detail:

Regarding passenger traffic and aviation activities, the AIA Management pointed out that:

In 2023, Athens International Airport traffic reached 28.17 million passengers, setting a new historical record, exceeding 2019 levels by 10.2% and 2022 levels by 24%, while the recovery levels of European airports compared to 2019 are still lagging behind by 5 percentage points on average.

Regarding non-aviation activities:

  • As of December 31, 2023, the airport had a total of 155 stores, covering over 13,500 sq m. within the two terminals.

Referring to the financial performance of 2023, AIA executives emphasized that:

  • Total revenues increased by 126.8 million euros or 26.6% to 603.7 million euros. euros in 2023, with the revenue streams of Aviation and Non-Aviation Activities showing a significant improvement, mainly due to the increase in passenger traffic by 24% compared to 2022, as well as the dynamic growth of revenue from commercial activities.
  • Revenue from Aviation Activities amounted to 448.9 million euros, recording an increase of 22.2% compared to the previous year and with revenue per passenger of 15.9 euros, while airline fare prices remained stable in 2023.

Presenting AIA's growth prospects, the company's management noted:

  • High levels of passenger traffic were recorded during the first 2 months of 2024 compared to the corresponding period in 2023.
  • AIA's main priority is the implementation of the 33MAP Spatial Plan (33 million passengers per year), aiming to increase the capacity of its facilities. Until the implementation of 33MAP, operational measures and capacity maximization projects will be implemented.
  • Preparations for the financing of the 33MAP project and other medium-term capital expenditures for maintenance and capacity optimization are underway.
  • In the context of maximizing commercial development, the possibility of introducing new concepts in commercial concessions and in the field of real estate development is being explored.
  • Strengtheningization of human resources and other operational resources to serve high levels of traffic, to ensure the quality of the services provided.
  • Maintaining high efficiency and healthy profit margins (adjusted EBITDA >60%).
  • Commencement of construction of a 35.5MW Photovoltaic Park, which will include an 82MWh energy storage system, to achieve the goal of zero carbon footprint (Net Zero) for Direct (Scope 1) and Indirect (Scope 2) Gas Emissions 2 by 2025 (“Route 2025” Roadmap).
