With the votes of the airlines, Athens Airport is once again first in Europe at the Routes Europe 2024 awards!

Athens Airport is once again at the top of Europe, voted by airlines!

At this year’s largest annual meeting of the European aviation industry “Routes Europe 2024” (April 22-24) held in Aarhus, Denmark, Athens Airport once again won first place for its marketing strategy and actions to develop the Athens market, in the category of over 20 million passengers!

The Routes Awards are unique in their kind, as the vote and decision process belong exclusively to airlines, which reward excellence in aviation development worldwide. This year’s distinction is even more impressive, as in the same category as Athens Airport, the following airports were nominated for distinction: Istanbul IGA, Rome Fiumicino, Brussels Airport, and Vienna Airport.

This year's candidacy of the airport, which won the hearts of the creative side by focusing on the art of strategy as well as on the "grand chessboard" of the broader field of international air transport, presented the impressive - at a European level - development achievements of the Athens market: In 2023, a total of 28.17 million passengers were transported through Athens Airport, a performance increased by 24% compared to 2022 and by 10.2% compared to 2019, while in the first quarter of 2024, the upward trend in traffic is spectacular, recording a performance increased by 16.5% compared to the corresponding period last year.

At the same time, 5 new destinations, 8 additional airlines and 19 additional routes on existing connections have been added to the Athens International Airport network for the summer of 2024.
