International Air Cargo Forum “Air Cargo Europe 2013”

Joint presence of the cargo community of Athens International Airport and the strengthening of the cooperation with important representatives of the transport sector

For a 5th consecutive time, the cargo development department of Athens International Airport and the members of the local cargo community exhibited under a common roof, at the international fair “Air Cargo Europe 2013” (Munich, June 3-7), building on their close collaboration and aiming at developing traffic through AIA.

This joint approach was used as the ideal platform to promote the airport’s initiatives in regards to the further improvement of cargo flows, simplification of Customs procedures as well as the generation of additional cargo. Amongst the other participants, the airport’s team brought together representatives from Cargo Star, Go Freight, Goldair Handling, Olympic Handling, Speed Air and Swiftair Hellas.

In the context of the promotion of extroversion and synergy, AIA had the honor to additionally host under its roof senior representatives from the wider transport and telematics industry, laying special emphasis on the promotion of Greek exports, multimodal traffic and Greek logistics in general,  such as Mr. Tasos Vamvakidis, Commercial Director of PCT SA (the Greek Cosco affiliate) and Mr. Spyros Olympios and Konstantinos Xaniotis, representatives of “Up Greek Logistics” the private initiative to promote the competitiveness of the Greek logistics services.

 


 


Tasos Vamvakidis, PCT SA:

“I gladly accepted AIA’s invitation to participate under the same umbrella with the objective of promoting the development prospects of sea-air transportation via PCT’s facilities in Piraeus and Athens International Airport. I firmly believe in this “seanairgy” project and estimate that the initiation of successful shipments in the immediate future will boost the dynamics of Greek logistics globally. This will also create a significant drive for the development of this promising transportation mode through Greece.

Within the sphere of its activities, Up Greek Logistics travelled to Munich having accepted AIA’s invitation to participate in its welcoming and modern stand to represent the airport’s cargo community. The dynamics and opportunities that the geostrategic position that our country offers, complemented with high level human resources and through innovation & technology provides added value to each new investment and simultaneously strengthens the quality and competitiveness of exports and tourism. We are very satisfied with our participation at the exhibition and also with the results obtained.

Facing another difficult year for airfreight and the Greek economy, the extroversion of the airport’s cargo community and also the common participation with significant partners, like PCT and Up Greek Logistics, with the objective of promoting Greece as a place of synergies and logistics, remains a challenge for us all. The ACE exhibition this year presented once again the ideal platform for this initiative.
