Women of the Cyclades through time
Details
Overview
The Athens International Airport hosts the exhibition “Women of the Cyclades Through Time”, specially designed for its exhibition space by the Museum of Cycladic Art.
The exhibition explores aspects of Cycladic history as documented through the female marble figurines created by the island societies of the third millennium BC. Smaller and larger antiquities depict the female form as a mother, a goddess, or an offering. The Cycladic figurines from the world-renowned collection of the Museum of Cycladic Art showcase a society that revered women and inspired 20th-century artists such as C. Brancusi, A. Modigliani, and A. Giacometti. The exhibition reveals images of an unknown society, yet one surprisingly similar to our own, as highlighted in its accompanying video.
Exhibition Duration: October 7, 2024 – May 31, 2025.
