Timely Arrival at Athens International Airport
As of 30 March 2026, the European Union’s new Entry/Exit System (EES) has been fully deployed for all third-country nationals travelling to and from the Schengen Area.
Passport control procedure might be significantly affected resulting in long waiting times.
Passengers are kindly advised to arrive at the airport at least 2.5 hours prior to their scheduled departure, in order to complete in time:
• check-in
• security screening
• and passport control, where applicable
Important: Late arrival at the departure gate may result in denied boarding.
Designated Points 2 and 6 for persons with disabilities and/or reduced mobility, located at the Suburban Railway Station and at Entrance 2 at the Departures level respectively, are temporarily unavailable due to ongoing works.
Passengers with visual impairments arriving at Athens International Airport by taxi or private vehicle, due to works at the designated point for persons with disabilities and/or reduced mobility No. 6, are advised to be accompanied by their escort either to Designated Point No. 1, located at the Departures level outside the Main Terminal Building between Entrances 1 and 2, where they should notify the Assistance Coordination Office to initiate assistance, or to be accompanied directly to the Assistance Coordination Office. The Assistance Coordination Office is located inside the Main Terminal Building, at the Departures level, to the left of Entrance 1 (upon entering the building), from where the provision of assistance will commence.
