The Athens way of Life

Always was, always will be.

The Athenian way of life – timeless and unchanged – is the focus of the new campaign by Athens International Airport and Marketing Greece. Four iconic paintings by Greek artists of the 19th and 20th centuries come to life, inviting you to experience the daily habits of Athenians that continue to express the city’s urban culture and values.

The atmospheric painting ““Neon’’ Cafe (Daytime)” by Yannis Tsarouchis transports you to the hangouts of old Athens – the traditional cafes that remain cherished meeting spots today.

Set against a backdrop of the Acropolis, “On the Terrace” by Iakovos Rizos pays tribute to one of Athenians’ favourite daily rituals – enjoying the city skyline with friends on a balcony or rooftop.

“Tailor Shop” by Giorgos Paralis invites us to discover the traditional crafts and creativity of the city – still an integral part of Athenian life today.

The painting “Neoclassical house at the corner of Irodotou and Vasilissis Sophias Streets’’ by Yannis Tsarouchis — which today is home to the Museum of Cycladic Art — highlights the architecture of the past, an inseparable part of modern Athens’ urban landscape.

The new campaign was implemented with the kind support of the National Gallery – Alexandros Soutsos Museum, the Yannis Tsarouchis Foundation, and Christina Parali, holder of the copyright to the works of painter Giorgos Paralis.
